About us

The world’s first online breathwork school, and the people who built it.

Alchemy of Breath is a breathwork school and global community founded by Anthony Abbagnano and Amy Rachelle. We train facilitators, hold free sessions for anyone who wants to breathe, and gather in person at ASHA, our land-based home in Tuscany.

Our story

Breathwork belongs to everyone.

Alchemy of Breath began with a simple conviction: that the most effective tool for healing is the one every person already carries. Anthony Abbagnano had spent decades with conscious breathing before he ever taught it, and when he brought that work online he became the first person to do so — opening a practice that had lived in retreat rooms to anyone with a connection and a willingness to begin.

Over thirteen years we have guided students from every walk of life: scientists, doctors, coaches, therapists, yoga teachers, homemakers, and educators. Some arrive carrying grief or burnout. Some arrive curious. Many arrive with no breathwork experience at all, which has never been a barrier.

What grew from it is a school with more than two thousand certified facilitators in over fifty countries, a free weekly gathering that has welcomed more than 170,000 people, and a home in the Tuscan hills where the community meets in person.

The breath belongs to no one. Our aim is that everyone who wants to share its power can do so with integrity, safety, and a compassionate heart.

Who we are

The founders.

Anthony Abbagnano, founder of Alchemy of Breath

Anthony Abbagnano

Founder · 50+ years with the breath

Anthony is the founder of Alchemy of Breath and ASHA, the Alchemy School of Healing Arts in Tuscany. He found his way to conscious breathing before he was twenty, and it has been the through-line of his work ever since — in business rooms, in classrooms, and alongside people in their hardest hours.

As the first person to bring breathwork online, he serves as curator for online breathwork on the board of the Global Professional Breathwork Alliance and holds a faculty position on the Shift Network.

He has shared stages with Deepak Chopra, Marianne Williamson, Bruce Lipton, Peter Levine, Wim Hof and Fleet Maull, and is the author of Outer Chaos, Inner Calm, a guide to reclaiming inner peace through breathwork and mindful awareness.

Amy Rachelle, ND

Co-founder · Naturopath & intuitive healer

Amy is the co-founder of Alchemy of Breath and ASHA. With decades of experience and a distinctive intuitive wisdom, she shapes the vision behind everything the school offers.

She is both a licensed naturopathic doctor specialising in food as medicine and detoxification, and a medical medium and intuitive healer — an approach that bridges ancient healing wisdom with modern medical understanding.

Her work brings together breathwork, intuition, nutrition and voice into a joyful, embodied path to transformation, and she guides the retreats and trainings alongside Anthony.

Why our certification holds weight

Triple accredited, and independently recognised.

Breathwork is a largely unregulated field, which is exactly why external accreditation matters. Our Facilitator Training is accredited by three independent bodies and we are a proud member of a fourth, making Alchemy of Breath one of the most thoroughly certified breathwork institutions in the world.

FHT

Federation of Holistic Therapists

The UK’s largest professional association for holistic and complementary therapists.

GPBA

Global Professional Breathwork Alliance

The international standard-setter for professional breathwork practice and training.

AADP

American Association of Drugless Practitioners

Accreditation recognised across the United States for non-pharmaceutical practitioners.

IBF

International Breathwork Foundation

A global community advancing breathwork education and ethical practice. We are a member.

What we offer

Every way in, from a free hour to your own practice.

There is no single starting point. Some people breathe with us on a Sunday for a year before anything changes. Others arrive ready to train.

Common questions

About the school, answered plainly.

What is Alchemy of Breath?+

Alchemy of Breath is a breathwork school and global community founded by Anthony Abbagnano and Amy Rachelle. It was the world's first online breathwork school. We run free weekly sessions open to anyone, a triple accredited facilitator training, and in-person retreats at ASHA, our centre in Tuscany, Italy.

What is Conscious Connected Breathwork?+

A breathing technique where inhalation and exhalation flow seamlessly without pauses. It calms the nervous system and helps release emotional blockages and limiting beliefs. It is the practice at the centre of everything we teach, and no prior experience is needed to begin.

Is Alchemy of Breath accredited?+

Yes. Our Facilitator Training is accredited by the Federation of Holistic Therapists, the Global Professional Breathwork Alliance, and the American Association of Drugless Practitioners, and we are a member of the International Breathwork Foundation. Breathwork is largely unregulated, so independent accreditation is how you can judge the quality of any training.

Who founded Alchemy of Breath?+

Anthony Abbagnano and Amy Rachelle, ND. Anthony has more than fifty years with the breath, sits on the board of the Global Professional Breathwork Alliance as curator for online breathwork, and is the author of Outer Chaos, Inner Calm. Amy is a licensed naturopathic doctor, medical medium and intuitive healer who shapes the vision behind the school's offerings.

Where is Alchemy of Breath based?+

The school is online and global, with more than 2,000 certified facilitators across over fifty countries. Our physical home is ASHA, the Alchemy School of Healing Arts, in Localita Le Piane, Castell'Azzara, Tuscany, Italy, about 2.5 hours from Rome. Retreats, graduations and the live residential training happen there.

Do I need experience to start?+

No. Most people begin with a free Sunday session, which is open to complete beginners and requires nothing but a quiet space. Our trainings are built to hold both the first-timer and the long-time practitioner, and the free masterclass is another gentle place to begin.

How do I become a certified breathwork facilitator?+

Through our Facilitator Training, a 400-hour certification you can take two ways: eight months online with weekly live calls, or as a four-month live residential at ASHA. Both graduate you as a certified Alchemy of Breath facilitator with a globally recognised, triple accredited qualification.
